Trigger System

Trigger started as a music education project of the Synth Library in Prague and Portland called TRIGGER-SYSTEM organized by women in music for women in music. With this project, the organizers tackled the topic of equality, diversity and representation in music and sound arts in general and reflect on systems of control and power structures not only in the field of music technology.

The project included an educational program with female musicians for female musicians in the fall of 2018, three public discussions on social change in the field of music (SYSTEM), a printed magazine/archive (TRIGGER) and a final concert of all participants of the educational program. The concert also featured a performance by “no gender, no genre” artist BORN IN FLAMEZ. The project was possible thanks to financial support from the Women's Empowerment Grant Program of U.S. Embassy. The final concert was also supported by Goethe-Institute Prague.

Challenges and problems addressed in this first project are still present in our lives, therefore we feel the need to tackle them in other projects, workshops and meet-ups. Every visitor is encouraged to think about power structures and stereotypes that have impact on us not only in the field of music technology and in the learning process. In the library you can also find many books and zines dedicated to the topics of gender, lgbtq+, decolonization, ecology, anarchism etc.
