artist talk
w/ Jena Jang
Připojte se k dalšímu setkání, během kterých nejrůznějších umělci*kyně představují svůj tvůrčí proces. Tentokrát náš navštíví experimentální hudebnice a audiovizuální umělkyně Jena Jang, která promluví také o svém konceptu Necrocore - léčení skrze zvuk a pohyb - ovlivněném starověkými rituály, tancem Butó a různými metodami práce s tělem. Setkání bude v angličtině. Nezapomeňte se registrovat.
Join us for an artist talk with experimental musician and audiovisual artist Jena Jang, who will introduce us to their creative process and the whole concept of Necrocore - somatic healing through sound and movement influenced by ancient rituals, Butoh dance, and somatic methods. Jena Jang is an experimental musician, audiovisual artist, and DIY instrument builder based between Czechia and South Korea. Their practice merges noise, improvised vocals, and self-built electronics into raw, body-driven performances that explore emotion, transformation, and the boundaries between human and non-human sound. This work is deeply integrated with their ongoing doctoral research, titled 'Contemporary Art of Healing (2019–2026)'. At the core of their work is “Necrocore,” a self-coined concept describing a journey of somatic healing through sound and movement. Influenced by ancient rituals, butoh dance, and somatic methods, Necrocore transforms intensity into release—channeling pain and memory into immersive performance. Their technical practice involves hand-soldered, battery-powered circuits, using open-source synthesizers and circuit bending. Projects such as the Tupperware Synthesizer and Hairdryer Performance are rooted in childhood memories of maternal care; these emotional objects act as vessels of healing, transforming past trauma and vulnerability into sound and ritual. https://jenajang.com/ https://jenajang.bandcamp.com/album/final-day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wY3xpxG95DI ⇨ WHEN: 8 February, 16:00 - 17:30 ⇨ WHERE: Synth Library Prague - Pod Terebkou 1139/15, P4 GPS 50.062727159303336, 14.437951978446856 ⇨ REGISTER: at info@synthlibrary.cz ⇨ DONATION: 200 - 400 CZK ⇨ SUITABLE: for anyone interested in sound and music ⇨ ANY QUESTIONS OR SUGGESTIONS at info@synthlibrary.cz MEMBERSHIP If you wish to become a member of the Synth Library Prague and get access to the the collection of instruments and books together with other members three times a week, please register at synthlibrary.cz/registrace.php TRIGGER CHANGE We encourage everyone to think about the systems of power and stereotypes not only in the field of music and music technology as well as in the learning process and our lives in general and to be considerate and respectful. photo: Boris Egorov |
