Join us for an insight into the music industry. How can artists navigate what remains of the music business? This lecture and discussion is for anyone who would like to get more information and tips related to releasing and promoting music, music PR and music journalism and might be puzzled music industry jargon and different strategies or might consider working in the field.

We will be joined by andra amber nikolayi aka ambient fuccboi an artist and music journalist experienced in music PR as well, who have been writing for Bandcamp or The Wire and working with labels like Sahel Sound.

The admission is voluntary and the meet-up will be led in English.

“I’ve had a lot of roles in the music world over the last decade and change. My work has taken me both on stage as a performer and DJ, as well as behind the scenes. In the last seven years (and especially since the first Covid lockdown) my main roles have been more on the organizing and support crew end than what would be considered the “talent”.

I want to share my insight on some of these less glamorous but vital positions that are often shrouded in mystery or insider jargon or which artists need to envision and approximate themselves. Especially with my pure work and my experience with Sahel Sounds I closely learned what it means not just to release an album but the work it entails both in pre-and post production / promotion.

ambient fuccboi aka andra amber nikolayi (transylvania, romania) has a wide array of roles across the sonic spectrum, currently working as a music journalist and PR.

ze started with small sound installations and live sets while in art school, developing a dj practice under the amber amber and opal opal monikers, followed by residencies in Paris and Amsterdam.

while studying sound and performance art at the école nationale superieure des beaux arts in Paris, ze began playing live as discombobulatrix, followed by an ep released on tape and shows at instants chavirés (Paris), madame claude (Berlin), café centrale (Brussels) and zero wave in London, sharing the bill with artists like Max Eilbacher, Clara de Assis and Dave Phillips.

ze now records as ambient fuccboi, with tracks on ambient flux, No to War! (Ukraine benefit compilation) and agf’s rec-on sound platform.

ze recently played at Simultan Festival, Manta Lisboa, Q club and Globus. also hosts the monthly eastbloc dispatches podcast on Radio Punctum.

zir decade-long music journalism work let them to be moderating panels at Nuits Sonores, Simultan and Lunchmeat, as well as a frequent contributor to publications like Bandcamp Daily, Electronic Beats, The Wire and Positionen.

they also did copyright work for artists such as Loraine James, DJ Bus Replacement Service and DJ Wawa.

with Polydoris PR ze ran music promo campaigns for small labels like Dauw, No Type or Shelter (Tallin), with artists such as Portable aka Bodycode, Yirinda and Alameda, among others.

since 2022 ze has been working as communications director and A&R for Portland-based label Sahel Sounds.
